Visit to Widener Law

As can be seen in the above slideshow, this past Saturday, May 2, I visited Widener Law School’s Pennsylvania campus in Harrisburg.

I was recently accepted to Widener’s PA campus and wanted to get a sense of the school. Unfortunately, there are no tours available on weekends, but my mother and I wanted to wander around a bit to see the facilities, and also to visit Harrisburg.

Below is some more information about the school and our trip.

Will change come to the Supreme Court?

As many of you have probably heard recently in the news, Justice David Souter plans to step down from the Supreme Court, which allows President Barack Obama the opportunity to make a significant judicial decision early in his presidency.

Here’s a recap of Souter’s career on the court.

And here’s some insight into what kind of person Pres. Obama may seek to appoint.

There was an interesting column in the New York Times recently about graduate educations and universities. The column was written by Mark C. Taylor, the chairman of the religion department at Columbia.

Check it out here.

Right for council?

In this week’s addition of Parade Magazine, the declining rate of available defense council in the United States is addressed.

The economic challenges for states have prompted some to cut jobs, which means less public defenders to represent defendants and more overworked remaining lawyers who risk making mistakes due to their demanding case loads.

Workplace etiquette

When I read the headline, “10 Surefire Ways to Tick Off Your Co-workers,” my first reaction was to wonder who would want to do that.

MSN Careers with CareerBuilder.com posted the article online to give tips on what not to do when trying to impress at the workplace, like answering your cell phone during a meeting or skirting around the office dress code (I know I’ve been guilty of the latter one at least once).

You can read the article here.

Any workplace or internship etiquette Web sites you would suggest to LawBound readers?

Internships matter

Today, for my weekly op-ed column in Rowan University’s student newspaper The Whit, was my interview with Harold Thompson, assistant director of Rowan’s Career and Academic Planning Center (CAP center).

As expected, much of our discussion focused on the declining job market and the challenges facing soon-to-be college graduates.

Thompson offered advice on resume-building and job search strategies, but one of his biggest emphases was placed on the importance of internships.
